Mr Kieren Darcy

Mr Kieren Darcy is a highly qualified, professional and caring Consultant Eye Surgeon. Kieren is the Medical Director of Vision Care Clinic, specialists in laser eye surgery and vision correction surgery. In the NHS he is the Head of Corneal and Refractive Surgery at the internationally respected Bristol Eye Hospital, which is part of the University of Bristol & Western NHS Foundation Trust.
Kieren started his career as a General Surgeon and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, England. He moved into Ophthalmology in 2007, training in London and the South-West of England. He was the winner of the revered Harcourt Medal during his training. This prestigious award is bestowed upon the Ophthalmologist who comes top in the world of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists Consultant examinations. He has done two subspecialist fellowships in Corneal and Refractive Surgery. The first in Bristol and the second in the highly acclaimed Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
Kieren has a real passion for patient safety and outcomes. He sits on the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Refractive Surgery Working Group, a committee tasked with redefining standards and a new accreditation process for Refractive Surgeons wishing to practice in the UK.
Kieren is an honorary lecturer at the University of Bristol. He is actively involved in teaching and runs a Corneal and Refractive fellowship programme at Bristol Eye Hospital, where Surgeons from around the world come for 12 months to learn advanced surgical techniques. Mr Darcy also leads and lectures on many local and international instructional courses on Corneal, Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Advanced Cataract Training Course, which offers free access to Surgeons from around the UK to learn advanced cataract surgical techniques.
In May 2017 he introduced new, improved techniques of corneal transplantation to Bristol. These have been a step-change in corneal transplant surgery with significant improvements in visual outcomes.
Kieren is actively involved in clinical research and has published in many international journals. He uses this to benefit patients often gaining individual early access to new treatments.
